Farshad Lahouti is with the department of electrical engineering at Caltech. He has more than fifteen years of experience with the mobile communications industry in research and development collaborations and roll out of new technologies and services. His research interests are in the areas of signal processing, coding and information theory, machine learning and their applications. In this domain, he has advised more than 40 graduate theses and coauthored more than 120 scientific articles. He also specializes in university technology transfer and entrepreneurship and management of higher education. At the IEEE, Farshad is a senior member of the institute and has served as an industrial relations officer. He received the distinguished scientist award in 2014 from Academy of Sciences of Iran. Dr. Lahouti is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, the most entrepreneurial university of Canada. He initiated Digital Ventures Design program at Caltech in 2014; In 2017, he will offer DVD4.0 focusing on Internet of Things and Big Data.

Dong Liang is a graduate student in Electrical Engineering at California Institute of Technology. He has five years of programming experience with primary focus on web and mobile development. In the past years, he co-founded a company that focused on helping students memorize words and learn English. He also had an internship at Amazon, which gave him a solid programming foundation. Having experienced entrepreneurship and professional programming, he is well prepared and excited to help students with any problems they meet during the course.
